Mvskoke artist Johnnie Diacon will give a brief history and a demonstration of the style of Native American painting that was popular during the middle half of the last century. The flat style was first introduced by the Kiowa Six at the University of Oklahoma under Oscar B. Jacobson, and it was further embellished at Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma under native artists Acee Blue Eagle, Woody Crumbo, and Dick West. It is the style of native painting that is most recognized in Oklahoma. Diacon studied this style of art at Bacone College and often paints in this style today.
